Care comes first.
Sulcata Keeper is a self-funded, independent education and adoption-support initiative based in Los Lunas, New Mexico. We are working toward obtaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, but we are not currently a registered 501(c)(3) organization. We do not represent payments or contributions as tax-deductible donations. Our goal is to help keepers make informed decisions for animals that need a long-term commitment.

How we approach information
Articles link to their sources, with veterinary and institutional resources preferred for care information. Our practical checklists are suggestions for planning. Content can be prepared with AI assistance and is not represented as reviewed by a veterinarian. If you see an error, please email info@sulcatakeeper.com.
Sulcata Keeper provides education and record-keeping tools for sulcata tortoises only. We are not a veterinary service and do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe. Photos cannot confirm a plant’s identity, its suitability for feeding, or your sulcata’s health. Do not feed an unidentified plant. When in doubt, consult a veterinarian experienced with sulcatas. For illness, injury, or suspected poisoning, contact a veterinarian promptly; do not wait for a website response.
Adoption and images
We support fee-free placements without a required donation. Educational adoption content does not establish an active rescue intake or guarantee a placement. Owner-provided rescue photographs are documentary images, not adoption listings or care recommendations. Captions do not assume an animal’s age, species, health history, or availability. Any remaining illustrative imagery is labeled where used.
Your privacy and phone information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Private phone numbers are not published or given to advertisers, affiliate retailers, or other members for marketing. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use information for requested services, the providers needed to operate the website, and how to access, correct, or remove records.
Read our Terms of Service & Use for account rules, community participation, adoption support, and the limits of educational and weather tools.
